No.59

A 20 second scene, the camera pans from behind Jack typing in The Colorado Lounge.

American History/Culture

Showing Jack in The Colorado Lounge like nothing has happened creates the false idea that things are fine.

The Colorado Lounge as a Workspace relates to American History. A man’s need to take the grandest space as his workspace is also related to American Culture.

Domestic Abuse:

Showing Jack in The Colorado Lounge like nothing has happened creates the false idea that things are fine.

The Maze:

Kubrick as Unreliable Narrator:

Time/Jack’s Work

Used probably from TUES, A31 as Jack is wearing the dark green sweater.

Connects the themes shown in No.31.

Kubrick’s Aesthetic:

A reflective composition in both Horizontal and Vertical.

Ghost Story:

The blocks of black and white photos framing Jack as he works connects the imagery from No.53, along with the dialogue between Jack and Grady around Jack’s “duty”.

Cabin Fever:

Jack seems to be handling working better than Tuesday and Thursday.

Direct reflection:

No.44

The color palette within the plane is the same as the carpet, including Halloran’s suit jacket, shirt and tie. The cup of orange juice mimics the tennis ball.  The color palette reflection shows Hallorans’ concern stems from this moment.

Conceptual Bookends:

No.37 and No.54 both feature Wendy smoking as a metaphorical “smoke signal”. Seeing the fire blaring in The Colorado Lounge could be the set up for “where there’s smoke”, and here is the fire.

Conquest:

Native American sand painting, buffalo head contrasted with A53 and the American /Imperialist British as Guide overtones

The inclusion of the Native American styled rugs to the right

The inclusion of the Native American banding and symbols on the ceilings

The camera positioned in The Colorado Lounge while Jack works is a repeated scene from No.36, as well as mimics how No.31 begins.
